That is really weird. When in programs like vim, gnome-terminal should
disable scrollback as the ncurses application grabs all the terminal
display. I've tried to reproduce your problem and I can't.

I was thinking on adding a setting and sending the patch to GNOME
guys, but this won't make it in if it isn't reproduceable.
