If you don't really need to use the pilot sync program, then you
don't *have* to build it. It's okay if you don't build certain
components, as long as they are not dependencies of components that
you do need, etc.
I would recommend that you not build the whole desktop from scratch
unless you really have need. Some JDS components require specific
setup on the build machine that is not always obvious until you
beat your head against some build problem for too long.
What I prefer to do is to install a recent Vermillion build from
the JDS download site:
http://dlc.sun.com/osol/jds/downloads/current/
Then use the CBE to uninstall a few packages that I want to rebuild,
and then rebuild just these few packages.
For example, run these commands in the top-level spec-files directory
to uninstall and rebuild 2 specific packages:
pkgtool uninstall-pkgs SUNWgnome-audio.spec SUNWgnome-media.spec
pkgtool --download build SUNWgnome-audio.spec SUNWgnome-media.spec
This has a much better chance of working without headaches.
