Gnome-term now works. Also in the previous beta version, assigning the desktop icon would cause Nautilus to crash. This problem seems to have been solved. Overall, the speed seems to be faster, but I don't have quantitative measure. Some packages failed to be installed, many of them are java-related. I simply ignored those error messages, and proceeded to the end of installation, then rebooted. Now I am posting this message from JDS Vermillion Development build 51.
