FWIW I've had similar problems with clean installs of nevada 
+vermillion generally, not just ekiga-- e.g. some preferences apps  
fail to start because gconf defaults allegedly aren't installed  
properly.

(Running the attached script fixes it for me, but that's just doing  
what Glynn suggested on a grander scale.)
