If you've already bored of testing the JDS4/Vermillion packages, and looking for something pretty to look at this weekend (in the US, this 3-day-long weekend) a new source drop of Solaris xscreensaver is available for testing as well.
It upgrades the xscreensaver base source from 4.05 to 5.0 (though in both cases, we heavily modify the sources, including providing a gtk-based unlock dialog the upstream maintainer frowns upon) and adds the "Really Slick Screensavers" to provide more "sizzle". The GL ones, including the really slick screensavers, are best viewed on a machine with accelerated OpenGL - either a SPARC with a 3D series graphics card, or an x86 with an nVidia card & the nvidia accelerated driver/OpenGL from http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html . [BTW - nvidia posted the new 8762 drivers there this week if you have older ones. Note that the nvidia OpenGL won't work on Nevada builds 39-41 though unless you replace /lib/ld.so.1 with the one from Nevada build 38.] You can find the source and build instructions in the xss5.tar.bz2 tarball in this week's OpenSolaris X Consolidation source drop for build 41: http://dlc.sun.com/osol/x/downloads/20060516/ (The main source tarball there includes the first release of our xscreensaver-4.05 release currently used in Solaris.) A previous update to xscreensaver-4.24 has had a couple of weeks testing, but this resync of that to xscreensaver-5.0 is mere hours old, so it's still a bit unrefined and definitely not fully tested. However, if you find any bugs, please let me know - these will probably integrate into Nevada in a few more builds (the JDS team & I need to work with the SFW folks to deliver a newer ImageMagick first). -- -Alan Coopersmith- alan.coopersmith at sun.com Sun Microsystems, Inc. - X Window System Engineering
