Hi friends,
    With your kind support,  I was able to set my gnome-terminal's font as
Luxi Mono.
     As you had rightly pointed out, the font-file (luximr.ttf) was
corrupted. After replacing it with the right file, I was able to run
fc-cache and was able to set the same font in my gnome-terminal.
    I am extremely thankful to you for your esteemed support.
