The very reason I have not purchased the Fluendo codecs is because the full pack list Microsoft media formats. If it was just codecs for other stuff that would definitely not send money to Micorsoft, then I might buy them just for the convenience of it. I have a basic aversion to being a hypocrite. When it was made known to me what they were doing it was not easy to accept what I had to do. I have six computers (desktops and laptops) that are in constant use by myself and other members of my family. We ran Windows, MS Office, MS media player and probably a lot of other software from them. I had to decide to switch all that and move away to an OS that was completely MS free.
It is coming up to almost a year since I switched all our computers to OpenSolaris. Actually I have SXCE on one small computer because for some reason OpenSolaris doesn't have the right kind of sound card driver for it but SXCE does. This has been a lot of hard work for me and a not so easy learning curve. That is why I want to help others who come to OpenSolaris with using it as a desktop. In an objective way, I also must admit that I find the environment of using OpenSolaris as a Desktop better than using Windows. People should be tempted to switch just for that. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
