Here's what I do with Belenix:
- wget http:www.belenix.org/binfiles/SFEspkg.pkg
- wget http:www.belenix.org/binfiles/SFEaxel.pkg
- pkgadd -d .
(note the dot in the previous line)
- spkg updatecatalog
- spkg install multimedia

The last step downloads just about all multimedia codecs as well as
mplayer and vlc from a non-US server.
I am able to play just about every media format out there.

I'm assuming that sound works for you already. If it doesn't, then you
may want to install the oss package from
http://www.opensound.com/solaris.html (I needed to do this even though
Belenix has oss built in).
