There are several papi bugs for Solaris 10U4 which causes Firefox 3.0.x to hang/crash when invoking the printing part. That's the main reason that we disable the papi backend for GTK of the contributed builds. Sorry that there is no work around for this problem. A possible choice is to upgrade your system to the latest Solaris 10 update (U6?) which might contain the fixes for the papi bugs. I can provide a separated papi backend for you to try out.
