Hi Gerard, I have only seen this when the user's homedir is automounted - e.g. /home/user - it would appear to be a timing issue - try login, this will cause the homedir to mount, and then logout and login again - do you still get this error?
I'm certain that when I logged into a user without using automounts (e.g. /export/home/user) for the home dir, it didn't complain about that file. I would consider it a bug though - it shouldn't really be ignored...
