An update from the OpenSolaris Wine Community.

A while ago a group of like minds proposed an OpenSolaris Wine Community. After
strong support from the community Albert Lee (trisk), Apostolos Syropoulos and
myself (Ch? Kristo) have made quite a bit of headway.

Albert has the most current stable build of Wine 1.0 built as a SVR4 package
for OpenSolaris which runs beautifully. Apostolos who has also been building
Wine packages prior to 1.0 will be taking care of getting Wine into the Image
Packaging System for OpenSolaris. Currently we are waiting for the IPS project
to sort out the intricacies of accepting external contributions and how to
separate these out from the "blessed" packages, once they have everything
sorted out we should be able to get Wine by running pkg install wine or using
the Package Manager GUI. Exciting stuff!!!

With Wine hitting 1.0 they are hoping to release more regular stable releases -
we will endeavor to have these running on OpenSolaris as soon as possible after
these releases.

Where to from here? Let us know your ideas...and if you would like to get
involved and make a difference don't hesitate to get in contact with me (che at
opensolaris dot org) and I'll find a way for you to be a part of making
OpenSolaris the best platform for running Windows applications!

You can find us at:

Thank you all.
