The program xdm is not needed - if you want to display a full session,
not just individual apps, then an XDMCP server is needed, which can
be dtlogin (default in Solaris Express editions), gdm (default in
OpenSolaris 2008.05) or xdm.
If you want to display an individual application, the best & simplest
way is to use ssh -X.
To use XDMCP for a full session, you will also need to enable the XDMCP
protocol in dtlogin or gdm - for dtlogin, you need to run:
svccfg -s cde-login setprop dtlogin/args=\"\"
svcadm restart cde-login
For gdm, I believe there's a gdmsetup option for it.
