IMO, the minimum that the GUI must do is provide a choice between going through the BIOS and not, and suitable help strings (e.g., on mouseover). Ideally it should provide an menu for choosing a GRUB entry to boot (with the current default marked as such), and a checkbox for selecting whether to go through the BIOS, with suitabl help strings.
