A different design might be to have a launch hook inside of gstreamer that is executed when a codec is missing. That way, a program gets run on-demand when a codec is missing, and we don't have this useless daemon always running that has nothing to do 99.99% of the time. The existing design is not really reasonable to me. -Seb
