works for me, most likely thanks to these entries in /etc/inputrc:
"\e[5C":        forward-word 
 
 

"\e[5D":        backward-word 
 
 

which I grabbed somewhere.

There was an RFE requesting some same default inputrc.
Maybe it was this http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=3090.
