Submitted on doo against gnome-session as Bug 13623 - gdm crashes when attempting to login via xdmcp or xvnc http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=13623 with pstack and core dump attached.
Since the pstack is rather simple, part of it follows: core 'core.gdm-binary.3016' of 3016: /usr/sbin/gdm-binary ff286b88 _ndoprnt (ff342be4, ff400edc, ff400e80, 0, 0, b) + 4 ff28ad0c sprintf (ff401360, ff342be4, ff401344, 1, 7fffffff, 7ffffc00) + 3c ff27977c vsyslog (ff35aeac, ff358000, ff401b1c, 2000, 1c, 38034) + 1bc ff2795b0 syslog (4, 38034, 4e7e0, 1, 4e7e0, 5f8b0) + 1c 00030590 gdm_log_default_handler (0, 10, 4e7e0, 1240, 3800c, 5f8b0) + 158 ff1500a4 g_logv (0, 5, 0, 4, 10, ff1eed74) + 2ec ff1501cc g_log (0, 10, 37568, fefdb554, 0, fefdb554) + 1c 6671 occurences of the next two lines 0002cb50 gdm_address_get_hostname (623f8, ff40250c, 0, 1baa4, 0, 48524) + d4 0002d32c gdm_address_debug (623f8, 10, 1b250, 10c00, 1ff, fffef1c4) + 5c ff146038 g_main_dispatch (51ab8, 1, ff1f1064, 0, ff1eed74, ff181604) + 1e4 ff147704 g_main_context_dispatch (ff1f1240, 0, a7738, 0, 51ac0, 51ab8) + cc ff147c54 g_main_context_iterate (51ab8, 1, 1, ff1f1248, 0, 1) + 4c4 ff1484a4 g_main_loop_run (5dd28, 10, 0, ff1eed74, 1, 54e18) + 38c 0001d780 main (1c800, 528c8, 1cc00, 32898, 495cc, 53878) + 390 0001c648 _start (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0) + 108 Hopefully there's a simple explanation and an easy workaround :-) FWIW all IP addresses on the local network are static. The system log has many entries (it has filled the current log entirely) of the form Dec 29 18:45:24 host5 gdm-binary[2926]: [ID 702911 daemon.warning] WARNING: Unable lookup hostname: non-recoverable name resolution failure Dec 29 18:45:25 host5 last message repeated 6669 times Dec 29 18:45:34 host5 gdm-binary[2956]: [ID 702911 daemon.warning] WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 2.481084 seconds nslookup does find the remote host and /etc/hosts contains it as well. Both resolve to the same address. Cheers -- Frank
