It will always be unique as it adds one to the current number or creates
OpenSolaris-1 as you have seen.  

I did have up to OpenSolaris-30 which seemed a bit annoying until I
discovered the following command to update and rename all in one:

pkg image-update --be-name WHATEVER_YOU_WANT

This creates and updates all in one ;-)
