I'm confused. Did you mean you can launch thunderbird successfully with old .mozilla and removing $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/etc and $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/.refresh. If so, you can just clean $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/etc and $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/.refresh, right? .mozilla/firefox/etc, .mozilla/firefox/.refresh should be recovered on next launch of Firefox / Thunderbird. These files are corrupted somehow, e.g. setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH_32=/usr/sfw/lib. Hmm, next time I should unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH_32 in run-mozilla.sh.
