Just updated from TB 38, all threads with "Group by sort" enabled are always
collapsed, and status is never saved.
Trick from comment #32 helps in keeping them all expanded (really happy to do
it for more than 40 folders....), but all TB versions I've used saved the
status (as said in comment #37): expand threads that were expanded last time,
keep collapsed threads that were collapsed last time, not simply "expand all"
or "collapse all".
Tried with brand new TB profile and safemode, same behaviour.

Title:
"Grouped by Sort" view is not saved in Unified Folders

Bug description:
  Hi,

Sorting the email "By Sort" (i.e. by some date) does not work properly
with the Unified Inbox folder. When I do:

  - Go to Unified/Inbox, set View->Sort By->Grouped By Sort.
  - Expand all by Ctrl-A
  - Navigate to another folder
  - Go back to the Unified Inbox

At the last step, TB should remember that all the 'threads' had been
expanded. Instead, they're all collapsed, which is inconsistent with
the way it works with all other individual folders. IMHO, this makes
this option unusable, as I have to expand the thread *every time*.
This problem occurs in all Unified Folders. Individual account
folders work as expected, i.e., they remember whether the thread was
  collapsed or not.

  Thanks.
