After I removed fglrx to narrow bug #787980 I had to add nomodeset to
the kernel command line to get something on the display.
no problem until I uninstalled fglrx, 3 reboots without display (but
ssh), 3 reboots with display using nomodeset, 2 reboots without
display without nomodeset, and surprise! one reboot with display
without nomodeset. filling ticket from that boot where modeset
actually worked.
