I'll add that the mp4 files that totem seems unable to read are files downloaded from youtube using Minitube.
Steps to reproduce: - open minitube - search for a video - download it - open the downloaded file with totem / run totem-video-thumbnailer on the file - check that the file is readable with vlc/smplayer I'm not sure it should be a whishlist as the feature worked without problems in 11.10, so it's a regression. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to totem in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/833507 Title: Nautilus doesn't show thumbnail preview for mp4 video icons Status in “totem” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Nautilus does not show a thumbnail preview as the icon for mp4 videos. Instead it shows a generic icon of a "film strip." A snapshot of the video should be displayed as the icon.
