As it turns out, I can add a screenshot after all, as the issue has
resurfaced. I have no idea what is causing this however, because at
other times the background is white and I can read it perfectly fine -
and I've made no settings changes.

Title:
Status menu not readable using Radiance theme

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
The drop-down status menu in Empathy (online, away, etc.) is currently
being displayed with grey text on a slightly darker grey background,
making it impossible to read. If you mouse-over a particular status
the text changes to white and it becomes readable, but the menu as a
whole requires some very strenuous squinting at the moment.
