Public bug reported:

I'm testing 12.04 64-bit, with all the latest updates. When I open
Displays settings on my desktop computer, bot of my displays (monitor
and projector) are identified as "Laptop". Same thing happens wint AMD
Catalyst drivers, and with open-source drivers (the card is Radeon 7950
and isn't actually supported by OSS drivers yet). On 11.10 they are
correctly identified as Dell monitor and Acer projector.

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
