Similar problem affected me, too. Right click on Network Manager Applet - Edit Connection - Wireless - IPV4 Settings - Method - Manual - Add - IP: 192.168.1.1 - Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 - Gateway 19.168.1.254. However, I can not SAVE this setting. I am on Ubuntu 10.04. With the number of problems I have had with Network Mangager, I tried to replace it with WICD but it kept coming back after update, and ruin my setup!
