I'm not sure if there's a way to disable gapless playback in banshee,
but maybe you could try that?

  Today I have been listening to some new music I downloaded and banshee
  keeps closing out for no reason to my knowledge.  Its happened for a
  third time today.  Maybe Banshee doesn't like Devo?
