In the wlan0 Properties window, when I open the Network Name (ESSID) menu, nothing is listed. If I have just run "sudo iwlist wlan0 scan" in a terminal window, the list is populated, but only for a short time, then it disappears again. When I set up a WEP network, the network interface is often unable to get an IP with DHCP. "sudo ifdown wlan0; sudo ifup wlan0" does not seem to fix the problem, but a reboot usually does. I have not been able to connect to a WPA2 network. This could be a driver issue or some other issue. Perhaps network-admin could report on capabilities of the driver? However, I save the password as a WPA2 Personal password, but next time I open the wlan0 Properties window, the selected choice is WPA Personal instead of WPA2 Personal. This could also be the problem. Network-admin should auto-detect the type of network encryption, and give relevant options for the password type. Even if the selected network is WEP, WPA Personal and WPA2 Personal are still options, and a novice or someone unfamiliar with the WLAN configuration details will have trouble knowing what to select. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release: 8.04 $ apt-cache policy gnome-system-tools gnome-system-tools: Installed: 2.22.0-0ubuntu9 Candidate: 2.22.0-0ubuntu9 Version table: *** 2.22.0-0ubuntu9 0 500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ sudo lspci -vvv # relevant output 02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN Network Connection (rev 61) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Unknown device 1101 Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- Latency: 0, Cache Line Size: 32 bytes Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 508 Region 0: Memory at ff8fe000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K] Capabilities: [c8] Power Management version 3 Flags: PMEClk- DSI+ D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0+,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+) Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME- Capabilities: [d0] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable+ Address: 00000000fee0300c Data: 41a2 Capabilities: [e0] Express Endpoint IRQ 0 Device: Supported: MaxPayload 128 bytes, PhantFunc 0, ExtTag- Device: Latency L0s <512ns, L1 unlimited Device: AtnBtn- AtnInd- PwrInd- Device: Errors: Correctable- Non-Fatal- Fatal- Unsupported- Device: RlxdOrd+ ExtTag- PhantFunc- AuxPwr- NoSnoop+ Device: MaxPayload 128 bytes, MaxReadReq 128 bytes Link: Supported Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x1, ASPM L0s L1, Port 0 Link: Latency L0s <128ns, L1 <64us Link: ASPM L0s Enabled RCB 64 bytes CommClk+ ExtSynch- Link: Speed 2.5Gb/s, Width x1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-tools/+bug/253235/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
