It's not a problem for me, but in Ubuntu 12.04 (Unity) I experience almost the same behaviour as specified in the description. The only difference is, that a file / folder is focused in Nautilus only when I manually focused one before (between steps 2 and 3).

To reproduce: - Create a file on your desktop - Open a Nautilus window (like; Places -> Home folder) - Select the new file on your desktop - Hold Shift down and press the delete key - In the dialogbox, press Cancel The focus is now moved from the desktop to the folder window. Which means if you press delete again (without shift), you will delete the first folder in the window! The same issue does not occure when the folder window is minimized.
