Same here, only just changed ubuntu session to gnome classic with gnome-
panel. Placed Force Quit on the panel and tried to kill a working app
(in my case Firefox), mouse arrow kept moving, other than that, system
completely froze, couldn't do anything other than Alt/SysRq REISUB.
Ubuntu 12.04

Title:
  Force Quit applet never quits

Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce:

  1) add "Force Quit" applet to panel
  2) get a large file (70 megs in this case) and rename it to end with .sh
  3) open the file with gedit. gedit freezes.
  4) click on "Force a misbehaving application to quit" applet
  5) the applet starts, but clicking anywhere does nothing. Pressing esc does
nothing.

I didn't find a way to exit this situation without killing gnome-
session from VT and this caused unsaved work to be lost.
