Hi again, sorry for the delay in responding. I just installed Gnome Classic and the bug continues there. Tooltip is always the same when hovering with the mouse over any of the four work areas shown in the selector.
However, when looking at the preferences of the workspace selector, it says the number of workspaces is 1. When I increment this number in the preferences, the selector changes from a rectangle with four divisions in it to two rectangles, three, four, ... and then the tooltip on each of them shows properly the workspace number. Well, this is confusing to me, so I made a series of screenshots to show what happens (see image attached). Don't know whether it's worth filling another bug or just saying it here. Anyway, as you said, I also think this is a minor flaw; maybe moving it to some kind of "Gnome Classic papercuts" category would help to remind it's still there in case someone wants to work on it. As you see fit :-) Also, I don't know for how long this Gnome Classic will be maintained. Maybe it's better for people wanting to have a classic look to use Gnome Shell with the proper extensions? (didn't try to set it up this way, honestly). ** Attachment added: "Gnome Classic's workspace selector tooltips behavior" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libwnck/+bug/145704/+attachment/3192912/+files/bug_workspace_switcher_gnome_classic.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libwnck in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/145704 Title: Same tooltip on both workspaces when using Compiz Status in Compiz: Confirmed Status in Compiz Core: Confirmed Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts: Invalid Status in “libwnck” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: To reproduce: Use Compiz effects, either normal or extra. Put the mouse over any of the two workspaces in the switcher, both show the same tooltip: "Current workspace: Workspace 1". It doesn't happens when using no effects (just plain metacity wm): tooltips in the switcher are different for each workspace, and correct.
