ok,thanks. installed the repo and updated the webkit packages to version 1.8.1...restarted...and empathy work fine now!
webkit 1.8.1 also solve crashes in epiphany browser (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webkit/+bug/980658) ps: im wondering, as a newbie...why this new version of webkit has not been given from the ubuntu updates still? it will be in the future? if this will be the case, could be a problem to have already installed from webkit repo?
