Title:
VPN connection is not enabled without supposedly optional username

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

I just setup a Cisco VPN using Stanford's pcf file. I would link to it
but it seems to only be available to registered users. network-manager
is able to import the file just fine and produce what seems to be a
well filled out VPN configuration. I'm using it through the indicator
applet in the traditional gnome panel.

I was baffled for a while that the new VPN connection didn't show up
in the indicator applet dropdown. Once I filled in the username (under
the Optional setting) it appeared. I also noticed some other strange
  occurrences:

  - Renaming the VPN interface did not show up in the dropdown until I selected
the VPN connection at which point it showed the new name when asking for a
password and the indicator was updated.
  - Removing the name didn't remove the VPN interface from the indicator and
using it was still possible, and it did not ask for a username.
