Hi,

I've posted a patch yesterday in gnome bugzilla. I'll *try* to upload packages
to my ppa so that it gets better testing.
For those who want to test the patch I rather suggest using the second patch at:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=657632

Which also fixes a nasty bug where you cannot shrink down the side pane
once you have enlarged it.

Title:
  sidebar minimum width too large

Status in Evince document viewer:
  Unknown
Status in “evince” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The minimum width of the thumbnail sidebar in evince 3.4 (running
12.04 release) leaves large margins on both sides of the thumbnail. On
a 1366x768 laptop screen, this whitespace takes away about an inch of
horizontal screen width which could be more usefully allocated to the
main preview window. The attached image shows a maximised evince
window in Ubuntu 12.04, and exhibits the large amount of whitespace on
each side of the thumbnails. By contrast, evince 2.30 on Debian 6.0
lets me shrink the sidebar to fit the thumbnails snugly.

  Ubuntu version: 12.04
  Package version: Evince 3.4.0-0ubuntu1

  What you expected to happen:
Evince should let me shrink the sidebars to the width of the thumbnails.

  What happened instead:
The minimum width of the sidebar leaves a half inch of whitespace on each
side of the thumbnail, which robs space from the actual preview window.
