@Thomas Hood: Okay, I just restarted instead of suspending. I had to run sudo ifconfig etho down && sudo ifconfig etho up to get my wired network to work. Tonight I will try the new version of network-manager.(network- manager 0.9.6.0-0ubuntu5 or later)

Instead, after some research and guessing, I found that it had to be turned on using sudo ifconfig eth0 up. This is not user-friendly and must be fixed.
