Interesting. Deja Dup has explicit support for mountable external drives like this. But it seems to not be kicking in here (you can tell because your org.gnome.DejaDup.File "type" setting is "normal" instead of "volume").
How is this hard drive connected? Normal USB? How did you select it in the preferences (i.e. did you say, "Local Folder" then type in a path or did you select the drive from the drop down directly)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to deja-dup in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/847033 Title: deja-dup causes Unity to crash when backup device isn't available Status in Déjà Dup Backup Tool: Incomplete Status in “deja-dup” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When the backup location is not mounted, Déjà Dup will not fail gracefully and will cause major slowdowns and lockups on the system when it launches automatically. (I've had to kill it by switching to tty1 and issuing `killall -9 deja-dup deja-dup-monitor`.) This is a major problem, especially on portable computers where a backup device may not always be connected.
