Same thing happened to me on a Lenovo ideapad s400 running stock gnome 3 on
Ubuntu 12.04.1.
The System is a fresh install+gnome3 and fully patched.

Title:
  Desktop Freeze

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I worked in Nautilus, renamed a file, and then Nautilus window and
whole desktop became unresponsive and grayed. I waited for two minutes
and had to restart lightdm from the console.

In the logs I've seen "[drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid
framebuffer id" line approximately when crash had occurred.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with all updates installed.
