I tried by now different versions:

First I downgraded thunderbird to version "11.01.1" what ever that have
been ment, but didn't worked anyway. Same crash. However, it seemed that
the crash was delayed a bit when a fresh profile (deleted .thunderbird)
was used.

Second I tried the mozilla team's ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/thunderbird-stable providing
a 15.0.1 version. Which did also crash.

Third, I though that maybe a dependency has not installed properly so I
reinstall each dependency this way:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall `echo "gconf-service, libasound2 (>=
1.0.23), libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.12.4), libc6 (>= 2.15), libcairo2 (>= 1.2.4),
libdbus-1-3 (>= 1.0.2), libdbus-glib-1-2 (>= 0.78), libfontconfig1 (>=
2.8.0), libfreetype6 (>= 2.2.1), libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1), libgconf-2-4 (>=
2.31.1), libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (>= 2.22.0), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.31.8),
libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.24.0), libnotify4 (>= 0.7.0), libpango1.0-0 (>=
1.14.0), libstartup-notification0 (>= 0.8), libstdc++6 (>= 4.6),
libx11-6, libxext6, libxrender1, libxt6" | sed 's/([^)]\+)//g' | tr ","
" "`

However, this wasn't a success either.

Fourth, I runned the thunderbird within debug mode: "thunderbird -g" +
"run" Bingo:

The stack trace gave me the hint to some ldap issues, and yes today I
changed my nsswitch.conf to query ldap before dns for some names:

hosts:          files ldap mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4

But this trick seems to confuse thunderbird, maybe I should submit a bug
report, to mozilla. I've changed this ldap stuff back and now
thunderbird works for me again. Hope those attempts may be useful to
others.
