Public bug reported:

booting up and logging in results in correct display of dual monitors
(laptop+external display) after about 30 seconds to a minute it suddenly
and for no apparent reason flips to mirrored screens, so I have to go to
display settings and unmirror them, then it seems stable and stays
working.
