Pidgin was working fine for me till 12.04 and I "fresh" installed 12.10
a few days back and I see this bug. It is very annoying. Please fix this
bug? I can send the debug log if it is required. What is more painful is
that Pidgin does not provide an explicit minimize to tray option.

Title:
closing the contacts window in pidgin now quits pidgin

Status in “pidgin” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since upgrade to 11.10 (and starting to use Unity for the first time)
I'm getting weird behaviour with Pidgin. Previously, closing the
contacts window with a chat window would leave pidgin running in the
system tray. Now, closing it closes all of Pidgin, even if a
conversation window is still open and active.

I've checked and the system tray option is still active, but I'm under
the impression that Unity irreparably breaks system tray
functionality, so I guess that doesn't mean anything.

Regardless, Pidgin should remain open if one of its windows is still
  open.
