LightDM has nothing to do with unlocking the screen. I'm moving this bug
to gnome-screensaver.

** Package changed: lightdm (Ubuntu) => gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu)

Title:
  blank windows

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
i cannot figure out how to repeat this bug or even if it is a bug with
lightdm, but every now and then when i wake up the screen (after it
has been locked) i will see either a blank black screen or a blank
screen with my desktop background image. the dialog box for unlocking
the screen (where you enter your password) is there but cannot be
seen. i can tell it is there because when i move the mouse in certain
areas the cursor will change when it is in the 'text input' area. if
i type my password and unlock the screen, all my windows remain blank,
but again they are there because i can see the mouse cursor changing.
the only workaround i've found so far is to switch to a console and
  restart lightdm.
