I tried the normal catalyst install gui with automatic install, custom, tried building the packages via the gui, and lastly, followed this guide to try to make it work: http://askubuntu.com/questions/124292/what-is-the-correct-way-to-install-ati-catalyst-video-drivers (yes I do realized this is for 12.04, but it's all I had to go on...) I would just use the opensource drivers if they weren't terrible for games and videos, but they are.
