The fix is in the latest Nightly builds at http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm- central/. If we can get some confirmation that this improves things for people, and doesn't cause any other issues, we'll try to pull it into the last TB 17 Beta build early next week.
