I have the same problem with GS on quantal. Both synaptic and gparted show the same behavior, gksu-ing them works flawlessly.

Please try again") and the dialogue disappears before I am able to complete my passphrase or press return key. Initially I found the bug by trying to start applications (ie gparted) via gnome shell. I am using x64 Ubuntu 12.10 with gnome 3.
