Ah, quick addition to the above comment (since I can't edit). It
appears that the music on my iPod is no longer there, but just appears
in the library. The Music app just quickly skips over all the songs.

So I'm guessing the sync did actually happen, but the library is somehow
corrupted.

Title:
  rhythmbox crashed trying to sync

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Opened rhythmbox, selected device (iPod nano 5G), and clicked sync
with library. The window dims (sometimes) as it processes my request
and crashes after a few seconds.

I think I have disk usage on from a previous sync on Windows. Turning
  it off changed nothing.
