I have installed a 'tag editor' (Ex Falso, from the repositories) and
MANUALLY edited the tags that were creating the problems.

With Rhythmbox open on one monitor, and Ex Falso on the other, I could
watch the entries ""fix"" themselves as I saved the edits in Ex Falso,
At least I was getting somewhere!

One thing I noticed was the few .wav files in the library, there are
only TWO tags available (title and artist), so those can not be fixed
where the sort order is not exactly the artist's name. (I guess we have
to live with the ""limitations"" of the MS 'anointed' format.)

What this tells me is simply this - do not use rhythmbox's built in
capabilities to edit tags, edit them separately.

As, a test, I renamed the db file (~/.local/share/rhythmbox.db), after
QUITTING rhythmbox, and re-opened rhythmbox. It was nice to finally
watch the library get recreated, and sorted correctly, except, for those
.wav files. (I think I will rip them to .flacs)

I am not sure if this will ever get fixed, at least, I can offer my
experience for anyone who encounters this in the future.

Title:
WHY does rhythm box keep on mangling sort order of a library?

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have RB 2.98 on my 32 bit Precise install (fresh install from CD).
After painstakingly correcting the ARTIST sort order for a decent
number of entries in the library, rhythmbox decides to throw that
  corrected sort order OUT!

It will be "correct", until I quit rhythmbox. Once I re-open
rhythmbox, it goes back to what it was before. All of that time
  WASTED.

For example, Alicia Keys should be sorted as 'Keys, Alicia', putting
her in with all of the other "K's"; but, for some tracks, rhythmbox
insists that the sort order MUST be Alicia Keys, not Keys, Alicia. So
  what gives????

I do not believe that it is a case of permissions, as I have rw
  permissions on all files.

They type of file (flac or mp3) does not affect this, as it occurs to
BOTH. BTW, I just checked one of the "corrected' entries. Where "Keys,
Alicia" was supposed to be, it was BLANK!

Does this have something to do with the ID3 tags????

Or, is it some consequence of rhythmbox "watching" my library for
  changes??
