Title:
No sound during high sample rates audio playback on MacBook Pro 7.1

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Sample rates higher than 48kHz produce no sound in my setup both in
pure alsa mode and pulseaudio (with default-sample-rate: 192000 or
96000 in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf) modes. Following strings shows that
audio hardware is set to this mode with no alsa resampling or
  something similar.

  aplay -D plughw:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0 high_def_audio.wav

  cat /proc/asound/NVidia/pcm0p/sub0$/hw_params
  access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED
  format: S32_LE
  subformat: STD
  channels: 2
  rate: 192000 (192000/1)
  period_size: 4096
  buffer_size: 8192

P.S. Sorry for using non stock kernel this is due to
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/v86d/+bug/1080530 (build
from #22 with single patch applied) but problem can be reprodused in
  "pure" setup.
