It is well possible to open links in the default browser, but it requires manual configuration of liferea. This should not be the case. I did the following: Under Tools/Settings/Browser choose 'Broser:' 'Firefox', which is the system default browser, 'Open-Link-in:''Browser-default'. Using Xubuntu 12.04.1 by the way, no system-upgrades were done on this system, the overall-imression is that it is quite well pollishedand likeable, this issue as an exception. Firefox is the default browser for this distribution, so it is unclear to me, why the default-liferea-configuration was messed up.

Clicking any link or button that is supposed to open a webpage in whatever browser the default is set to, does nothing but print this error message: ** (liferea:10117): WARNING **: Fatal: cannot retrieve browser command! This includes links within articles and right-clicking a link and choosing «Launch Link In Browser». As a workaround, one has to right-click it and choose «Copy Item URL To Clipboard».
