I believe I recognise this kernel bug in cursor misbehaviour across
modeset.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

  when closing laptop lid and reopening it the mouse cursor disappears.
  happens with lucid beta 1. cursor can be made visual again pressing Fn+F7 
(ibm thinkpad x41).
