Closing as current versions of Ubuntu show association of music files with default music player.

Currently .m3u files are not associated with Totem on a default Ubuntu install, although Totem can handle this file type. It would make sense in terms of user experience if these MP3 playlist files could be associated with Totem by default in the absence of any other player installed - this way they can be easily opened/played without any configuration changes.
