Title:
  PCI/internal sound card not detected

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I am using Ubuntu 12.04.01 LTS
When I typed the command 'apt-cache policy pkgname' in the terminal, this
shows -
"N: Unable to locate package pkgname"

  But the primary problem is-
My sound was working fine with Ubuntu 12.04 until recently, when I
'completely removed' the 'unwanted dependency packages'(or something with that
name in the 'status' tab of the Synaptic Package Manager'. Since then, I have
been having problems with the audio. My sound indicator works just fine, but in
settings, it shows only 'dummy speakers' and doesn't show 'internal
speakers'(which used to show before).

I also uninstalled the default music players(totem and video player)
and installed 'SM player'. If this helps.

Thank you for your time :)
