Sorry for the long time without answer, we are sorry that we do not always have 
the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. This seems 
something that should be requested to the developers of totem to see if they 
could consider such a feature, and not something specific to Ubuntu. You may 
consider asking for such a feature at

  totem wont close after a movie finishes playing

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: totem

  When I have totem playing a movie after the movie finishes playing the
  computer wont kick into sleep mode, because totem will not close out,
  even though the movie has stopped. I wonder if you can make totem
  autoclose after a movie is played so that the system can go into sleep
  mode. thank you
